I’m very excited to officially be a proud owner of an Amazon Kindle! Lugging 500 page, hardcover books into and out of Manhattan on my commute just wasn’t going to fly any more, and I have to say that this may be one of the best electronics purchases I’ve made to date (aside from my iPhone). The newest Kindle is super small and even lighter than pervious models, and only $79! What’s not to love? I have to admit that I was initially hesitant about the whole receiving ads on your Kindle thing, but Amazon has actually done a great job ensuring that they aren’t intrusive to your reading. You only get ads as your screen saver when you aren’t reading, and on the bottom of your home screen, and to be honest the ones I have received so far actually seem like great deals. But, if you do find the ads to be annoying, you can pay a small $30 fee to have your Kindle become ad free for life.
There’s also an integrated social media feature so you can link your Facebook and Twitter accounts and share what you’re reading with your friends and followers, I haven’t tried it out yet, but i’m excited to see what it’s all about. I suspect that this feature integrated with the new Facebook timeline should be pretty cool – similar to the Spotify integration sharing what you’re listening to, I can imagine that Kindle will probably begin to share what you’re reading in your timeline.
I can’t wait to start reading Stieg Larsson’s “The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest” on my Kindle, I’m racing to finish reading the hardcover version of “The Girl Who Played With Fire” so I can get to days of lighter and more mobile reading!
